St. Luke’s Cataract and Laser Institute is a premier eye care practice made up of experienced and caring medical professionals. Dr. James P. Gills, the founder and director of the practice, is one of the world’s foremost authorities on cataract surgery. Dr. Pit Gills works alongside his father, expertly performing cataract surgery and various refractive procedures. St. Luke’s highly skilled team cares for patients in our state-of-the-art offices and performs surgery at our private surgical center. We go out of our way to ensure that our patients leave St. Luke’s completely satisfied with their eye care experience.
Our StaffDr. James P. Gills heads St. Luke’s medical staff, which is made up of physicians, physician assistants, and optometrists. In addition to retina surgery, the ophthalmologists at our Florida practice offer a number of other procedures, including cataract surgery and refractive surgery. We also have a cosmetic surgeon on staff who skillfully performs a wide range of cosmetic procedures. Every member of our staff is committed to meeting your needs and helping to make your experience as pleasant as possible. For more information about our staff members, visit our doctors and staff page.
Our FacilitiesSt. Luke’s Cataract and Laser Institute is one of the largest freestanding ambulatory eye care centers in the United States. Our ophthalmologists serve patients at four Florida locations: Tarpon Springs, St. Petersburg, Spring Hill, and Bayonet Point. Our main office in Tarpon Springs includes a 26,000 square-foot surgical center with six operating rooms and a 20-bed recovery room.
St. Luke’s is dedicated to maintaining a high standard of care while keeping costs as low as possible for our patients. Performing surgery at our freestanding surgery center is one way we save our patients money. Unlike many hospital-associated surgery centers, our outpatient facility fee includes all medications and supplies used in surgery. Studies have shown that this saves patients and insurance companies up to 35 percent.
Our practice also places a great deal of value on patient education. In addition to the information available on this website, we supply patients with printed information and videos and offer weekly eye surgery seminars.
St. Luke’s Cataract and Laser Institute is also pleased to offer St. Luke’s EyeCare Network, Inc., an educational, nonprofit organization we established in 1993. Members include St. Luke’s medical staff, along with over 100 optometrists throughout the state of Florida. The network holds yearly medical conferences where attendees receive continuing education credits.
Depending on your individual needs, Medicare and/or private insurance may cover a large portion of the cost of your eye treatment. When you visit our Florida practice, we will discuss this coverage in greater detail.
To help make vision care affordable for all patients, our Florida practice offers financing through Care Credit®. Payment options include three, six, and 12-month no-interest plans, as well as 24, 36, and 48-month extended payment plans. Care Credit is fast and convenient to use. Patients may apply either on line at www.carecredit.com or via phone at 800-365-8295.
